Architect:

Emery Roth

Emery Roth left the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 1880s at the age of 13, only to quickly make a name for himself as an apprentice at some of the most prominent architectural firms in Chicago. His career, a dance between residential buildings and hotel designs, Roth promoted both a beaux arts approach and an Art Deco sensibility in his creations. His own firm, Emery Roth and Sons, is behind some of the most notable American buildings in the past century.
